Disco Ball

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I’m fortunate to be surrounded by magic! My daughters bring light and love into my life, and my grandchildren bring all of that and magic too.  Yesterday, I was at my daughter’s house playing with my grandchildren.  All of a sudden, a squeal of delight rang out and the youngest raced into her bedroom grabbing a fairy skirt.  “The disco ball is here!” she said.

I smiled, and curious at this point what brought on all this excitement.  I watched my granddaughter rush into the living area, and couldn’t believe my eyes.  A purple candle holder rested on a small table, and sunlight shot prisms of colored light.  Dots of rainbow scattered the room as she raised her hands, and spun around in the light.  She told me the disco ball comes every day, for just a little while.  I thought it was adorable that she grabbed a special Tutu for the occassion, and that she danced with such abandon and joy!

I reached over and moved the crystal globe around and around, and it truly became a disco ball.  When the shaft of sunlight moved, I moved with it to prolong this magical time as the beautiful light brushed the wooden floors and transformed the room into a wonderland.

I was in the same magical world my granddaughter created.  That’s what fills my heart, and shows me where the magic is.  It often comes through our children and grandchildren.  It’s always there if you can see, and when you can’t they’ll show you if you take the time.

I wish all of you “disco ball” days this week, and don’t be surprised if you discover a little girl in a future book of mine, one that wears a Tutu and dances in the rainbow sunlight while her Mimi watches.   Sigh.  I live for these days!

Touching Base

Today is my blog day at Magical Musing, and I’ll be chatting about The Big Picture.  Stop by if you get the chance, I’d love to see ya.  Since I’m writing my very first series, the process has been a different experience for me.  I think I’ll love the process.

Here’s an amazing link.  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/legacygallery/gallery-9139/Hubble–The-amazing-space-photographs-universe.html   Edie shared them with us Magical gals, and we loved them.  I’ll be using one for my blog tomorrow.

All the best for a fabulous end of the week!

Stop and Jot

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I realized today I need to do something, before another day passes.  I need to jot all character/story notes as they spill.  You know that voice, the one who’s in charge of your story.  It has a different feel to it, and should really be listened to IMHO.  It’s like the classy guest who’s staying in the guest cottage aka the ol’ brain matter.  It’s rather rude when we don’t listen, ya know?

Character voices don’t work by time as we know it…big surprise there.  Ideas don’t wait for us to have a quiet space, or pen and pad closeby, they don’t care if you’re trying to sleep either.  And I say, God bless them one and all for that!

We accepted this writing gig and all it entails, so why gripe when the gates open and the words and ideas cascade out?  I have several notebooks throughout the house, and I missed some serious feedback because I was busy doing something else, and didn’t take the time to stop and jot.  Today as I’m working, I’m thinking what was that idea…the one where I went “ah” in my head, and smiled when I was home alone the other day?  I think the idea either migrated to lands unknown, or is hiding in the guest cottage until I play nice again and pay extra close attention.

I get it!  So henceforth, I shall be above reproach as my story caretaker and voice.  I won’t ignore the guests in the cottage, the ones that are actually running the show.

What about you?  Have you mastered the hostess aspect of writing yet?  I see some hot muffins and coffee in the a.m. to lure them out again, fingers on the keyboard, a pad and pen strapped to each thigh.  I won’t be caught unprepared again!
